Effortless Expression Through Careful Craft
Christopher McCuddy
Owner/Piano Technician
Music always came to me naturally from a young age. My grandmother would play a little tune on her vintage upright, and from the age of 4, I demanded that she show me how to do it. This developed into a deep passion for music, and I took every opportunity that came to me throughout my formative years. As a member and leader of every music ensemble I could join, I spent all of my time picking up every instrument I could get my hands on, and learning how to sing. By the end of high school, I had become the drum major of the marching band, learned the basics of nearly every band instrument, and had been singing, conducting, and teaching those around me for years.
This passion continued into University at Sacramento State where I began studies in Music Education and Clarinet Performance (my primary instrument since 4th grade). As a music major of any kind, one of the requirements is basic piano classes; Having been self-taught in piano, I learned quickly, and my soul was recaptured. In university, there was a place for focusing on piano that was never available to me before. I switched my major to piano performance, and began taking lessons from professors there. It was only after a year or so of studying piano that I encountered the staff piano technician, and I became enamored with the inner workings of the piano and how small adjustments can make the difference between making music, and not being able to play at all. Upon this revelation, I eventually left University and began studying with various piano technicians to learn the trade. Since then, I have worked as a Automated Player System Installation Technician and Instructor at PianoDisc; Warehouse Manager/Staff Technician at Wessell, Nickel, and Gross; and Salesroom Technician for Mason & Hamlin Piano Co. Today, I have established my own practice in my current home of Folsom, CA and continue to provide comprehensive service to musicians in need.
